St.Nicholas Markets
The Exchange was opened in 1743 and housed a popular open-air corn market and hub of commerce for the city, with a roof added in 1872. It's now the last 18th century building of its kind and home to a range of independent shops and food traders. Stop for a moment and take in The Nails, four bronze tables outside on Corn Street, with raised edges which prevent coins from tumbling onto the pavement. They were made for merchants to close deals by payment 'on the nail'. The clock was first installed in 1822. A second minute hand was later added to show the time in London as well as original Bristol time.
